    The plates are plain blue, you can put any kind of letters or pictures you want on the plates. No letters or pictures come with the communicators.  The volume level is quite good. But if you are in a noisy school hallway it would be hard to hear over  the background noise.

    A No it is a communication device first, the use as a switch is a secondary function.
